Nashville is a traveler’s dream in August. With an average temperature of 90°, a slew of fun outdoor events and the timeless combination of cut off shorts and cowboy boots in full swing, August is a fun month in Music City. We encourage you to visit and experience some of the things that make us one of the top cities to visit in 2019.
Start your trip off at The Basement East, where there will be an annual Jerry Garcia Celebration on August 2nd & 3rd. Whether you are a fan of The Grateful Dead or not, this fun 2 night event will feature a complete lineup of local artists covering Garcia’s entire musical career. The Basement East is one of the best venues in town, with great beers on tap, amazing sound and always a great band to serve as ear candy. If you feel like a lighter version of this, consider trying out The OG Basement first, it’s a little more low key but just as fun!
It’s official, the 2019 US Air Guitar Championships are being held in our beautiful Music City. If you are in town August 3rd and plan on attending this event at Exit/In, the whole world is probably envying you. On this special night in music history, you get to witness regional and national air guitar professionals facing off for the chance to represent Team USA in the World Championships in Finland. US Air Guitar is dedicated to advancing the larger purpose set forth by the AGWC (Air Guitar World Championships): to promote world peace. According to them “wars would end, climate change stop and all bad things disappear if all the people in the world played air guitar.” So come support air guitarists and the world in August.
The music scene in Nashville is an eclectic one, with it’s fair share of country, soul, pop and pickin. If you are visiting for the first time make sure you hit lower broadway to get in your country fix, but also try and see some of the amazing variety that this town has to offer. On August 7th, one of our city’s favorite bands is taking stage at The Bobby Hotel for their Rooftop Music Series. ‘The Dip’ is a seven piece ensemble that effortlessly melds together 60’s soul, modern pop and deep pocket blues. If you enjoy music at all, you will not be disappointed.
We are so excited to tell you about ‘Live on the Green.’ LOTG is one of Nashville’s most anticipated events and this year it’s been said that it is going to outdo all the previous years. Not only is this a FREE, outdoor music festival, but it happens three Thursdays in row- August 15, August 22 and then the whole weekend of Labor Day weekend, starting Thursday, August 29. Held at Public Square Park, it’s the perfect spot for families, big groups of friends or even going solo. Food trucks, drinks and merchandise are a pebbles throw away at any point in time and the big name acts this year are sure to impress even the least musical mind. (Lake Street Dive, Grace Potter, Steve Earl, Lindsay Ell, Lucie Silvas etc.) You may even want to purchase a VIP ticket for unlimited drinks, free parking and the best views! We’ll be there – will you?
