Foggy Bottom Canoe & Kayak on the Harpeth River
If you want to explore the Harpeth river, we suggest doing so through Foggy Bottom rentals. The owners are a gem and we always have a fun time. Their canoes are well cared for and the staff if friendly.
We highly suggest not just showing up and booking well in advance! Don’t forget fido on this one – they’re pup friendly, too!

Kayak on the Cumberland River
If skyline views are more your thing, you can choose to kayak (or paddle board) on the Cumberland River. This river runs right between Downtown Nashville and East Nashville so your views will include Honky Tonks, Nissan Stadium and the Batman Building!
There is little shade since you’re on the river by the skyline. Highly recommend hats, sunscreen and as always, a lot of water!

Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Board on the Cumberland River
If you haven’t tried SUP (stand up paddle boarding), we highly recommend it. Even if you have two left feet (like me) it’s an easy way to enjoy an activity on the water.
Definitely reserve your rental or class in advance – their spots fill up quickly.

General Jackson Showboat Dinner & Show on the Cumberland River
This is one water activity that doesn’t require “work” on your part (ie no paddles or pedals). You can truly sit back and enjoy a day or night on the water – while dining and enjoying live music. We personally suggest the night option over the day option.
It is, of course a little “touristy” so expect that when you go. Book tickets in advance and watch for weather updates as you get closer to the day of.
For families: they can accommodate strollers!
Paddle Dog Adventures in Westhaven/ Franklin
If you haven’t tried SUP (stand up paddle boarding), we highly recommend it. Even if you have two left feet (like me) it’s an easy way to enjoy an activity on the water. Westhaven is a small community in Franklin, TN with a small lake. Paddle Dog offers SUP rentals on the lake – and when you’re done, be sure to grab a hot dog! 🙂
This is a smaller lake and company so be sure to reserve your rental in advance online.
